PCC Women’s History!

Pasadena Casting Club has a rich history of women in fly fishing, fly tying, conservation, and casting. Let's take a look back at one of our most influential casters, Pauline Cathcart.

Pauline Cathcart was a long time casting competitor for the Pasadena Casting Club. Pauline won 9 Gold Metals in the American Casting Association National Tournaments, which resulted in her being awarded the Ladies' Accuracy Files National Championship 5 times.  With her amazing casting skills, she also won the Ladies All Accuracy National Championship.

Pauline was a wonderfully kind lady that helped many people learn how to cast and will be remembered for her dedication to the art of fly casting through her students. She was a long time member of Pasadena Casting Club and was instrumental to teaching casting to the club. This led the club to create a special award honoring her countless hours and dedication to teaching thousands of casters the art of casting a line. The Pauline Cathcart Memorial Casting Award is given to those who exemplify her standards who have demonstrated a unique and enduring commitment to mastering and teaching the classical approach to the art and science of fly casting. We are very thankful for everything she contributed to the club and we hope this award truly demonstrates our thankfulness for her generosity and devotion to casting.

A total of 15 people have had the honor of receiving this award (listed below):

2018 Eric Callow
2015 Dok Arvanites, Tim Lawson
2013 Mike Miller
2012 Leigh Swanson
2009 Darel Chang
2007 Bill Smith
2004 Steve Posner
2003 Joe Libeu

Pasadena Casting Club was very sad to postpone the Reel Ladies event in April, but we look forward to when we can set this event up in the future. Thank you to everyone that has been supporting our women's program and helped us get this program started. We couldn't have done it without all the instrumental women who paved the way for our future. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for what is to come!!

Past Female PCC Presidents

Pasadena Casting Club has had 5 Female Presidents.
The first female President was back in 1983 with Diane Prossen Armstrong (pictured in this post).

Followed by Joyce Merigold in 1987-1988 then again in 1997.
Followed by Leigh Ann Swanson from 2015-2017 and most recent female President Wenda Payan from 2017-2018.

They have done amazing things for the club and have helped making it what it is today. We cannot thank them enough for all their hard work and all the hard work of every President that have led our club!
