Programs Chair

Steve Terui was raised in the inner city of Los Angeles, but in his youth formed a great appreciation for both saltwater and freshwater fishing. At the age of 15, he picked up his grandfather’s bamboo fly rod, caught a beautiful Yellowstone River Cutthroat which started his lifelong passion for fly fishing. Although he continues to enjoy the Eastern Sierra, Steve likes to explore new rivers to fish outside of California. Steve co-founded and continues to manage a behavioral healthcare software company in Pasadena to help him realize his fly fishing dreams.

Scott Boller

Vice President

Scott was raised in Sierra Madre and Idyllwild California and learned fishing from his father (who was a PCC member in the mid 1960s) and grandfather at local lakes (Legg, Puddingstone, and Big Bear). He started fly fishing in the mid 1970s when his father moved to Bend, Oregon. Other than fly fishing, interests include rock climbing, skiing/snowboarding, spear fishing, scuba diving, hiking, and backpacking. Scott is an Aerospace Engineer, spending the last 27 years at Rocketdyne, including 15 years on the International Space Station program. Scott is a member of TU, CalTrout, and IFFF. He is married to Sonia with two children who also fly fish, Samantha and Sebastian.

Mark Hess

Treasurer

Mark was born and raised in NE Ohio and then headed west for studies in Arizona. Landing his first job with American Hospital Supply, Mark lived in Colorado Springs for 27 years. It was during that time, he was introduced to fly fishing in Colorado, much of it on the Frying Pan and Platte Rivers. Career opportunities required multiple moves to San Francisco, Minneapolis and ultimately Pasadena. During that time Mark took multiple fishing trips to Alaska and Colorado. Floating the Copper River has been his most treasured fishing memory. In addition to his role at PCC, Mark is a lifetime member of TU.

Lucy Kajimoto

Lucy was born and raised in Los Angeles. She first learned to fish when she was 12 years old during a family vacation to Mammoth with four of her many boy cousins. (Ew! They even made her gut the fish!) Then, as a young adult, her brother took her fishing every weekend when they lived in Denver. They would pack a lunch and go to different lakes in the Rocky Mountains. He would fish and she would throw her line in with no bait. It was the fun of being outside, enjoying nature. Now, she continues going along for the ride to various fishing spots, whether watching others fish while she waits on a river bank, seashore, or on a fly-fishing boat in ocean flats! Two of her favorite things to do are traveling and eating. Fun fact: Her favorite meal in Dublin, Ireland was at a Chinese restaurant! 

Sam Hagen

Casting Chair

Sam has been fly fishing for many years and is still humbled every time he goes out. Fly tying makes his ADD kick in hard, so he is a fly buyer rather than a fly tier. However, he enjoys the art of fly casting and loves this aspect of our great sport. He and his wife are empty nester's that live in Claremont, but enjoy their time with their adorable dog, Cash. Sam has been a Mortgage Salesman for over 20 years and often introduces his clients to our great sport.

Becky was born and raised in Pasadena, and first started fishing when she met my husband, Zackary. Being an adventurous woman, she took up fishing right away. She even caught a bigger fish than her husband ever had! She has been fishing for about ten years, she has immersed herself into the club to learn everything she can because you can never stop learning. Other than fly fishing, her interests include hunting, traveling, and painting. While President, she became a mother to a wonderful baby girl, Zoe. She is now pregnant with her second baby and due in August 2024. You will also see Becky with her two Bracco Italiano doggies, Diesel and Lugnut. They are always there for the catch, and maybe to play in the water! Fly fishing has become a huge part of Becky's soul and she can’t wait to continue this with her daughter!

Guy Ferrante

Guy is grew up in the San Gabriel Valley and now lives in Rosemead. He works for a engineering firm that designs geodesic domes, and has worked for the same company for 30 years as a structural designer. Guy started fishing as a teenager in freshwater lakes and streams. He took up fly fishing about twenty years ago, and his other hobbies include fly tying and his cherry 1967 Chevelle.

Fishtales Newsletter Chair 

Born in east Hollywood and, like so many of you, went fishing often with my Dad and older brother - mostly ocean (pier, surf, party boat) and eastern Sierra lakes. I often used a "fly and bubble" for trout, but did not actually pick up a fly rod until I took the PCC Intro to Fly Fishing class. Thanks to much patient and generous advice from many PCC friends, I enjoy fly casting both for fishing and the simply joy of spending a couple of hours on the Club pool. I have also trained golden retrievers in competitive obedience and field skills for nearly 30 years. Molly, my current partner, is the smartest and most independent-minded of them all. Last fall, on a small stream near Bridgeport, she caught two small browns; I was skunked. I spend the rest of my time as Professor of Environmental Science at Occidental College, researching air pollution and health using numerical modelling.

Ed Wallace

Conservation Chair

Ed is a water resources engineer with a master's degree in water science and a focus on natural systems. He typically work on projects involving stream and wetland restoration, river erosion and stabilization, and riverine and wetland habitat enhancement and mitigation. In the last ten years, and particularly in southern California, Ed has worked on many fish passage projects. These have been primarily focused on steelhead, but also some other native species like Santa Ana sucker, arroyo chub, and Pacific lamprey. Many of those projects are funded by grants, and he works with Caltrout and Trout Unlimited and other non-profits as recipients of the grants. The grants come from various sources, but several have been through the Fisheries Restoration Grant Program administered by CDFW and National Marine Fisheries, and also the State Wildlife Conservation Board. Ed has lots of experience working with CDFW and NMFS, and with other agencies like USFWS, USACE, USFS, National Park Service, Coastal Conservancy, State Conservancies, etc.  

Ed has been in the consulting business for over 40 years and he is in the process of retiring, which involves transfer and some ongoing review for a wetland restoration project in Lake Tahoe and several S Cal fish passage projects.

Steve Posner

Fly Tying Chair

Born in a lake of fire, raised in the trunk of a 1965 Dodge Coronet, Steve Posner is known for his no-holds-barred, take-no-prisoners, impatient not-catching-many-fish style of angling. In spite of this, he is known in his own mind as not just an expert, but a self-proclaimed expert, which he insists is the best kind. 

Matt Swanson

Outings Chair

Matt Swanson grew up in Arcadia CA and still resides there. In 1970, His mom took him to the Pasadena Arroyo casting pond at age 10 which is where he learned to cast. It was many years later on a corporate fly fishing trip in 2009 to the Watauga River in the Tennessee Appalachians that he caught the fly fishing bug. Since then, he has fished all over the west and has also started tying flies. His favorite river is the Lower Provo in Utah. When not fly fishing, Matt is a commercial real estate appraiser.

Brantley Haigh

Mr. Haigh spent 16 years as a real estate development and construction executive followed by eight years as a Trade Commissioner work for the Canadian Department of

Foreign Affairs. Following his stint in government, Mr. Haigh started his own consulting firm advising European life sciences companies on market access and capital formation strategies for North America. He later joined Ventana Capital as a Principal for early-stage venture investing. Mr Haigh is currently President of the North American operations of Proteros Biostructures GmbH, an early-stage drug discovery company in Germany.

Ron Escue 

Holiday Program Chair

Born and raised in the Midwest - my dad introduced me to fishing as a young boy. Farm ponds and bamboo poles, fly rods were to come later. Nite-crawlers, shiners, dough balls and leeches were the standard bill of fare as we hunted pan fish on many a summer day. Family vacations offered trips north and with that came an introduction to walleyes, muskie and northern pike - along with the occasional brook trout. Shortly after a job transfer to California in 1980 - a close friend introduced me to fly fishing. An enthusiastic long-term member of TU and Cal-Trout, I have benefited from numerous opportunities associated with piscatorial pursuits and the great locales that those adventures have offered. As empty nesters - my wife (Ann) and I reside in La Canada.

Donna Lenahan

Donna Lenahan was raised on a farm in Central Kentucky where her family has lived for over 200 years. Donna grew up fishing the farm ponds, lake, and creek as well as rivers around the area. Her father was an avid fisherman and the family spent winters in south Florida fishing the Gulf coast and back bays of Ft Myers.

In 2019 she attended an Orvis women's event where she met some of the women of PCC. Later that year she had her first opportunity to fly fish at Kaneohe MCB in Oahu. She hooked a hammer head shark. Her first trout was caught at Hot Creek Ranch.

Professionally, Donna is a Human Resources executive. When she travels for work she packs her fly gear along with her laptop. This has afforded her the opportunity to fly fish across the US and had a grand slam on one of her days (rainbow, brown, brooke and palamino).

Carl Crawford

A lifelong resident of Southern California, Carl wet his first hook as a 12 year old at Yellowstone Lake on a family vacation. He matriculated to Fly fishing some 36 years later on vacation with his family in British Columbia. A member of the Pasadena Casting Club since 2005, he has coordinated numerous outing to our local streams and beaches. Carl founded and chairs the Club Youth and Trout in the Classroom programs. He is a Financial Advisor, and serves as Youth Director of the Southwest Council of Fly Fishers International, and is a member of the Cal Poly Pomona Alumni Board

Eric Callow

Public Relations

Eric Callow started fly fishing in Idaho at age 7 but it wasn’t until he joined the PCC in 1994 that he truly started to learn the sports of fly fishing and, ultimately, casting. Eric became a Certified Casting Instructor in 2014 and now serves as Director of Casting Activities for the Southwest Council of Fly Fishers International. He is active as a tournament caster in the American Casting Association. He served as President of the PCC Board 2000-2002 and led a number of initiatives for the club, including landscaping the grounds in 1998. Currently, he chairs the Public Relations Committee b.

Syd Martinez

Social Events Chair

Raised in the heart of nature, Syd developed an unwavering love for the wilderness and learned valuable skills from her dad as they spent countless weekends camping, hiking, and fishing. During the pandemic, she decided to look into the art of fly fishing and eventually discovered the Pasadena Casting Club. Eager to explore this new realm of angling, she immersed herself in books, online tutorials, and became a member and social chair for the club. Originally from the San Gabriel Valley, Syd enjoys exploring beyond Los Angeles County and often finds herself returning to the Eastern Sierras as much as she can. During the day, she works as an Operations Manager for Sony Music Entertainment. The wilderness continues to be her sanctuary, and fly fishing remains a source of joy, peace, and adventure.

Doug Snyder

Doug grew up fishing the lakes and rivers of Michigan. He met his wife, Deb, at Kalamazoo college. They have lived in Boston, Miami, and for the past 2+ decades in Los Angeles. After a 20-year career in film and video production, Doug has spent the last 19 years at Southwestern Law School, currently as the Manager of Customer Care in the IT department. In his spare time Doug can be found in his kayak fishing on the ocean, fly fishing wherever he can, or playing bass in one of several bands.

Caroline is a long-time PCC member who started fishing at age 3 with her father, joining him on trips all over Oregon and California. She began fly fishing seriously in the 1980s. She grew up in La Canada, where she still resides, and has enjoyed an active life with other pursuits, as well (e.g., horses, as a cowboy on several ranches including the Hearst Ranch in central California, work at Kratka Ridge in the San Gabriels, and as a guide on the Kern River).
