The club had a very enjoyable trip in April, although a bit cold. August offers predictable high-summer conditions. The 30-mile stretch below the dam provides crystal-clear water and boasts an impressive 8,000 to 22,000 fish per mile. While the river sees heavy float-boat and recreation traffic during the summer, late August often sees a slight drop-off as families return home for the school year. August is synonymous with "big bug" fishing. Grasshoppers, flying ants, beetles, and cicadas drive fish to look up. Foam patterns and hopper dropper rigs are highly effective. You will still encounter PMD (Pale Morning Dun) and Caddis hatches, particularly in the mornings and evenings. Lower sections feature a great Trico spinner fall. Midges and PMD emergers or nymph patterns (like Pheasant Tails and scuds) remain strong producers. Our guides specialize in dry flies or a dry dropper, drifting mostly on section A and B of the Green River with 5wt or 6wt rods with floating line. Sign-ups are on a first come basis and payment secures your spot.
